Research trip to Lake Merced Feb. 18

I am doing a study of Lake Merced and asked Cris and Wayne to help me better understand the geography and micro communities of the Lake. Lake merced is considered a treasure of San Francisco because of its natural beauty, but also because it is considered a “wild” area and is protected and gently managed by the Natural Areas Program of SF Park and Rec. Department. Community groups (Friends of Lake Merced) have also taken on the stewardship of the lake.

It is interesting to think of it being wild because it is surrounded by dense urban neighborhoods, three golf courses, the SF Zoo and a busy highway that encircles it.
