Lake Merced March 11

On Sunday Wayne, Cris and I went back to the sites around the west lake section of Lake Merced to further explore the redish film at certain sites on the north side of the lake.

Wayne took several samples from the water that spills inland from the lake beyond the tule growth and Cris did some aerial (pole) shots. Wayne wanted to further examine the water to understand what might be causing the redish film, and Cris took photos to “map” where the redish zones travelled. I took photos of the process and closer views of the duckweed and site conditions.

We also saw that there was a similar red-brown stain near the clubhouse on the golfcourse. Wayne thinks that perhaps the fertilizer may be causing the red iron bacteria – however where it is located remains a mystery.
